General Summary:
Provides engineering and project management requirements for engineers maintaining and improving Great River Energy generation facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop concepts, plans, and specifications for proper design, construction, and operation of new and existing plant equipment or other assigned projects. Manage projects by working directly with scheduling, purchasing, and contractors to ensure accurate, economic, and timely completion.
  • Investigate and evaluate equipment failures and minor system changes to maintenance and operational procedures and practices to achieve optimum system and equipment performance.
  • Provide technical support services, including researching specific requirements, preparing cost estimates, contributing to design decisions, determining procedures for obtaining qualified contractors and awarding contracts, obtaining field measurements, and performing calculations as needed to support engineering activities.
  • Assist with equipment inspections during unit outages to provide analysis and technical assessments.
  • Perform work involving complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures in order to develop new or refined equipment, materials, process, products, or methods.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others to maintain engineering quality assurances and controls. Act as staff advisor and consultant in technical specialty to provide engineering expertise while seeking solutions to operational problems.
  • Complete detailed planning of project needs and outage maintenance for up to one year in the future and general planning of programs implementation for up to five years in the future which supports company mission and vision. Drive GRE vehicles to other sites
  • Provide project management on complex modification projects requiring unconventional or novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques in order to monitor and control project expenditures against the established budget and to prepare and maintain schedules.
  • Perform work involving a number of projects of major scope and importance. Conceive, plan, and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity and develop new designs or techniques to improve optimum plant efficiencies.
  • Study new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization. Act as a technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for assigned area of responsibility while seeking to improve plant efficiencies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, procedures, laws and regulations. Report and investigate accidents, maintain safety awareness, and promote all aspects of Great River Energy’s (GRE’s) safety program. Report all noncompliance and endorse all aspects of GRE’s environmental management programs.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (or advanced) in engineering or education required to qualify for the written Professional Engineering Examination as required by the State Board of Engineering, and
typically 0 – 3 years of experience in an engineering or science- related position.

 

Working conditions include office and plant environments. Equipment and systems inspections can require working in high places, with physical movement including bending, twisting, and climbing. Exposed to noise, vibration and dust. May require working periodic shift work schedules and will be expected to work extra hours and report to the plant during non-scheduled working periods. May be required to attend seminars, conferences, and meetings and travel away from the regular work place. Required to wear personal protective equipment. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
