    General Summary

    We are currently looking for an Economic Studies Engineer who will be responsible for analyzing transmission expansions needed to address energy market inefficiencies, improve reliability, accommodate load growth and generation expansion on the GRE transmission network using production cost modeling tools.

    Responsibilities

    Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Analyzing and assessing the transmission system for congestion; to ensure operational reliability, adequacy, efficiency, and security, and the long-term needs of GRE’s member cooperatives are met.
    • Developing power system models.
    • Sharing and understanding of the energy market, underlying transmission system and generation fleet and its response under contingent conditions, perform production cost modeling analysis to identify economic opportunities to be addressed through transmission and/or generation solutions.
    • Representing GRE on external organizations dealing with transmission planning and modeling issues. 

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree (or advanced) in engineering or education required to qualify for the written Professional Engineering Examination as required by the State Board of Engineering, and
    • Typically 1-2+ years of experience in an engineering or science-related position within the utility or a related industry.
    • Experience working with powerflow and/or production cost modeling tools is required. PROMOD or PLEXOS or similar is preferred.
    • Fundamentals of Engineering certification is preferred.
    • Knowledge of the utility industry and its application within the engineering discipline.
    • Skill in utilizing and assessing technologies related to the utility industry.
    • Verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions.
    • Ability to work within a team environment.
    • Experience in utilizing strong analysis and problem solving skills
