    Distribution Engineer (Electrical Discipline Required)

    Maple Grove, Minnesota

     

    Approximately 60% office work and 40% field work. Travel to construction sites is required.

    General Summary

    We are currently looking for a Distribution Engineer who will be responsible for performing physical and control engineering, automation, project management, and field support on projects to construct new or maintain existing distribution and transmission systems. Will provide design and support services to external distribution and transmission customers.

    Responsibilities

    • Performs engineering and automation for distribution and transmission projects to meet customer needs to ensure safe, reliable, high-quality, cost-efficient designs.
    • Provides technical and field support services to external distribution and transmission customers, GRE engineers, and others to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the customer distribution system and the GRE transmission system.
    • Leads and/or participates on internal and external teams responsible for the development and updating of industry design standards and equipment specifications to ensure consistent, high-quality designs.
    • Performs project management for distribution engineering projects, as assigned, to ensure all financial, functional, and schedule requirements are met.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree (or advanced) in electrical engineering required or education required to qualify for the written Professional Engineering Examination as required by the State Board of Engineering, and
    • Typically 2-6+ years of experience in an engineering or science-related position within the utility or a related industry.
    • Fundamentals of Engineering certification and/or Professional Engineer registration is strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of distribution system computer modeling software (MILSOFT preferred), GIS and mapping software, distribution system protection techniques, distribution substation automation and physical design.
    • Knowledge of National Construction Codes, RUS Construction specifications and industry safe practices.
    • Knowledge of the utility industry and its application within the electrical engineering discipline.
    • Skill in utilizing and assessing technologies related to the utility industry.
    • Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions.
    • Demonstrated experience in utilizing problem solving skills to address primarily technical nature issues.
    • Strong project management skills. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize time/workload and delegate work in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to successfully communicate with technical, non-technical, and leadership audiences.
    • Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners.
    • Ability to work within a team environment and independently.
